This time a year ago I was laying in a hospital bed holding my precious newborn son Ryan. He came into this world on June 15, 2009 at 6:37AM. We are so blessed to have a healthy and sweet boy. It's hard to believe that it's been a full year since he joined our family.
It's also been our first year as parents. I think we have done pretty well for first time parents. We've had our moments. Stress, sleep deprived, nervous, anxious, delighted, overjoyed, excited. We've experienced all these emotions and then some. It's been the best year of my life and I wouldn't change any of it for the world!
This morning I had visions of Matt and I going into Ryan's room and singing Happy Birthday to him. Instead I woke up at 6AM to hear Ryan crying. He rarely cries when he wakes up so after a few minutes I knew something was wrong. He didn't have a fever but he was pretty fussy and pulling on his ear. We headed to the ped. this morning to confirm he has ear infection again in his right ear. The same ear that was infected in April and in May. Ugh! The ped put him on a stronger antibiotic but if this one doesn't do the job he will refer us to the ear specialist to talk about tubes. I hope this med does the job and he feels better soon! It's just so wrong to be sick on your birthday, especially your first one!
After Ryan's morning nap we decided to take him to the zoo. It was Matt's first time to join us at the zoo. It was so fun and SOOOO HOT! I was a hot mess before we even entered through the gates, ha! It was not crowded at all and the rain stayed away. "Dragons" are the new exhibit at the zoo so there were zoo keepers all over the place holding snakes and reptiles. I have a HUGE fear of snakes so I stayed clear. Matt wanted to pet one and even let Ryan pet the snake. Matt enjoyed teasing me that Ryan already did something I haven't. No way is he ever going to get me to pet a snake, YUCK!
We visited the Children's zoo and Ryan got to pet a goat.
There were lots of fun farm animals!
It was so hot we stopped to get some ice cream before leaving. I figure Ryan should definitely have ice cream on his birthday. Might just be a new tradition. He loved it and kept opening his mouth for more. It was a wonderful day! I was so glad we could celebrate Ryan's first birthday with our little family!
Happy Birthday sweet boy Ryan! We love you so very much and can't imagine our lives without you! Our lives have been so blessed with you over the last year. We can't wait to celebrate many, many more birthdays!
