Easter 2014

Happy Easter from the Deepe Boys!

We had a wonderful Easter!  The boys woke up to Easter baskets full of all kinds of goodies.  They both got personalized bunnies from peek-a-whoo.  They are sooo soft if they don't want them I will take them.  Ryan got a new game for his leap pad and Colton got a new car and new book.  They both got new sunglasses they are sporting in the above picture.

We headed to church after baskets and breakfast.

Our church service was so good and hit home the message about Jesus being our redeemer and coming to save us.

After church we went to Parker's in Blue Ash for Easter Brunch.  They had a huge breakfast/lunch buffet with everything you can imagine there.  It was all so so good!

My in-laws came over after lunch for dessert and Easter egg hunt.  I made this yummy lemon cake with fresh berries.  It tastes as good as it looks.

The boys were tired but we rallied the troops for one more Easter egg hunt.

Papau and Colton and of course Annabelle!

Colton love finding the Easter eggs.  He would get so excited every time he found an egg.

Ryan was fast and of course found most of the eggs.  He was pretty excited to "win" the Easter egg hunt.

It was a wonderful day and we are so thankful for a wonderful God who sent his Son to die for each of us.  Praise God that Jesus lives so that we may live in Him.

We were all exhausted after all the festivities.  It was early to bed for everyone!

Easter Party Central

On Friday we hosted our MOPS Easter Egg Hunt.  It was super fun and just a little CRAZY!!!  We had 30 kids and about 12 moms.  Everyone signed up to bring something to eat.  Thankfully, I didn't have to make anything except for lemonade.

We made a cute little craft of a sheep with cotton balls and goggly eyes.  All the kids loved it, even my non crafting boy Ryan.

And of course we had an Easter Egg Hunt!  These are the kids 3 and under.  They were in the backyard.

I was with Colton for the egg hunt since Ryan can pretty much take care of himself.  Colton loved it and got so excited every time he found an egg.

Here are all the kids 4 and up.  They were ready for the competition and ready to play.  It was such a fun day and we loved hosting such a fun event.

Saturday morning we woke up to donuts from daddy.  Matt loves to surprise the boys with donuts on Saturday morning.  They were so excited.  One of these boys (one on the left) ate 3 donuts!!!  Whew! These boys are going to be eating us out of house and home in the teenage years.

Ryan with his best friend Bret.  They are two peas in a pod and have the best time together!  (Can you tell Ryan has been krogering?).  He loves to go up to the cashier and ask for stickers.

We were excited to go to our friends house on Saturday for another Easter Egg Hunt and Party.  It was a beautiful day.  The weather all weekend has been really just perfect.

Ryan loved hunting for eggs and made sure he got just the right amount.

Colton enjoyed hunting eggs as well!

The hostess provided the main course and everyone else brought sides and desserts.  It was a delicious meal and we loved eating with all our friends.  It was the perfect day!

Easter Celebrations!

Today was Ryan's Easter Party at school!  I so enjoy going to his preschool parties and seeing him interact with his little friends.  Love this boy more than words!  He had a great time playing games, doing a craft and of course snack time.

I've been super busy this week with cookies so I decided to take the boys to lunch after school. We headed to City BBQ..one of our favorites.

We were finally able to get out and enjoy the sunshine today.  We had snow two days ago and today the boys were playing outside in shorts.

These are just a few of the cookies I made for Easter this week!

Ryan's First Soccer Game

Ryan had his first soccer game on Saturday!  He was so excited and we couldn't wait to watch and cheer him on.

This picture was not posed.  He totally did this on his own after I asked Ryan to pose for a picture!  He is such a little ham.  He loved yelling and cheering on his big brother.

Ryan did great in his game.  He scored three goals.  His first goal was a line drive right down the middle.  We are so proud of him.  He did so good and had so much fun.  His batteries did start to run down around halftime but he hung in there and did great.

This little one is such a ham!  He cracks us up and keeps us laughing.

Sunday was a good day of church in the morning and we stopped by City BBQ for lunch.  We came home for naps and Matt started school work while I worked on cookies!

Matt is counting down til the end of school.  Less than two weeks to go.  I have six dozen Easter cookies this week to make not counting the two dozen I'm delivering tomorrow!  It's a crazy, busy week!

The Week That Was

I have been a blog slacker this week!  I have been super busy between cookie orders, MOPS stuff and trying to get in some spring cleaning around the house.

We are really looking forward to Ryan's first soccer game tomorrow!  On the way to practice this week he said he loves soccer more than school!  I love that he loves playing.

We did get outside a lot this week to play.  It was a gorgeous warm and sunny week, except on Monday,  So thankful for great weather and getting some fresh air with the boys!

Derby Pie Bars

Oh my!!  I decided to make these oh so yummy and delicious derby bars this week!  I only ate two bars and took the rest to my MOPS meeting.  It's a good thing I did because I could have seriously ate the whole pan.  They are just as delicious as they look!  You must try them for your next get together or holiday or just chocolate craving.

Derby Pie Bars
Recipe adopted from The Kitchen

For the shortbread crust:
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup all purpose flour
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed

For the filling:
12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons bourbon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. To make the crust, combine the powdered sugar, flour and salt in a food processor. Add cubes of butter and pulse until it resembles course cornmeal. (You can also use your fingers or a pastry cutter to incorporate the butter.) Firmly pat the mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish.  Bake the crust for about 20 minutes until just lightly golden.

To make the filling, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Add the eggs, flour, salt and vanilla and continue to mix until well combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and pecans.  Pour batter over partially baked crust. Bake until filling is set and the top is light golden brown, 30-35 minutes. Allow the bars to cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Our Weekend

We had a quiet weekend around here!  Ryan's soccer game was cancelled Saturday due to the fields being too wet.  We had rain last week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  So Saturday we hung out at home in our pj's while I made pancakes for breakfast.

Saturday night we had a double date with friends then went to play lazer tag after dinner.  I haven't played since high school but it was super fun and we had a great time.

Sunday Matt had lots of school work (only 3 weeks to go!!!) so we came home right after church and I went to the grocery!  I know, riveting!!!  I met up with a group of friends for dinner Sunday night and we laughed and laughed til our bellies hurt.  Fun times!!!  Wish I had gotten a group picture but totally forgot!

Five on Friday

It's been a good spring break!  Here are some highlights from our week!

1.  Ryan has his very first soccer game tomorrow!  I might be more excited than he is.  I'm just hoping he doesn't stand around picking the grass.

Ryan told me today that he didn't need to practice any more.  I told him he still has practice and will have a game each week.  He then told me he didn't need to practice, he knew it all already.  Silly boy!  I told him there is always room for improvement!

2.  I made these adorable woodland creatures for my sweet friend Monica.  Her little guy Daniel is turning one this weekend.  The raccoon is my favorite!

3.  The boys have requested a train birthday party this year so I will probably be making more of these this summer!  I'm not a huge Thomas fan but they turned out super cute!

4.  I have been super eager to pack up my winter closet and bust out all the spring clothes.  I moved all the boys spring clothes to the front of the closet last weekend and plan to put my big sweaters away this weekend.

The boys are pretty set in their spring/early summer wardrobes.  Most of their stuff from last summer still fit so we are going with it.  I think that means my clothing budget gets a little extra fluff.   ha!  I was shopping online the other night and found these little pretties.

I love the tank dress and think it will look fab with a denim jacket.  Love, love the sam edelman's sandals!  I have them in coral/pink and love them.

5.  And this little cutie pie is feeling so much better.  He is back to eating normal again and been so playful and fun.  So glad everyone is well again!  Oh and this is Quack Quack and he is a C's very best friend.  He doesn't go anywhere without QQ.

Mommy Ryan Time

Ryan is on spring break this week!  He has been so excited about Spring Break for some reason.  I think it's because he's heard a lot of people talk about it at school.  I asked him the other day what he wanted to do for spring break and he said "go to lunch with you mommy".  Melt my heart!!!
So today Colton had MDO so Ryan and I had some sweet one on one time.  He was super excited and kept talking about it all morning.  After we dropped Colton off we headed to the gym for a quick workout then we ran a few errands and grabbed lunch before it was time to go pick C up.

It was so fun getting to spend special time with my first born.  He is such a sweet boy and has the kindest heart.  He is getting so big!  I can hardly believe he will turn 5 in a few months!!!

He loves school and has really come a long way academically this year.  He loves to count and knows all his letters.  His favorite color is green and his favorite letter is R.  He wants so bad to please us and obey.  He will ask me after I get upset with him about something "mommy, are you sorry you yelled at me?" or "mommy, are you mad at me?" repeatedly.  He definitely doesn't always obey but he has a sweet spirit and really does want to do what is good and right.  I pray he never loses that.

He brightens our day every day and brings so much joy to our family!  I cannot imagine life without him.  We are so blessed with all God has given us.
